HollabackPHILLY is part of an international movement to end street harassment (sexual harassment by strangers in public, like catcalls). We will run a contest for creative public ads to raise awareness of this problem offline. Our movement is strong online – now it’s time to take it to the streets.
The $1,500 will fund the cost of running the winning ad in Philadelphia. It can be a print ad, billboard, radio ad, or any other form of publicly visible media, and we will choose the winner based on which ad best sparks conversations about what street harassment is, how it negatively affects our daily lives, and what people can do when they see it happening. The winner will also be featured on our website with an article and interview. One reason our movement is stronger online than offline is the prohibitive cost of advertising. We hope that a successful public media project in Philadelphia will lead to citywide collaboration, and the development of a media model for anti-street harassment organizations worldwide.
